One of the all-time classic graphic novels is available in a special hardcover edition, ideal for collectors. Since its original publication in the mid-1990s, Joe Sacco's breakthrough graphic novel--a landmark of comics journalism--has won an American Book Award (1996), has been added to university curriculums worldwide, led to a Guggenheim Fellowship for Sacco, and firmly ensconced Sacco in the pantheon of great cartoonists. With the Middle East's role in contemporary world politics, Sacco's Palestine has never been more relevant, and his pioneering form of journalism more valuable, to a country desperate to understand this long-running conflict. Based on several months of research and an extended visit to the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the early 1990s (where he conducted over 100 interviews with Palestinians and Jews), Palestine was the first major comics work of political and historical nonfiction by Sacco, whose name has since become synonymous with this graphic form of New Journalism.Ages 13 and up

I love this graphic novel! It really helped me see what hardships the Palestinian people are suffering!

Drawn to this graphic novel after my exposure to the Persepolis series, I found this to be an excellent introduction to the Palestinian, modern day plight. Fortunately, Sacco has provided a succession of novels since this one for further examination of the issue.

This graphic novel presents the Palestinian point-of-view of the Israeli-Palesentinian conflict since World War 2; thus sharing a perspective not often voiced in the West. A highly enthralling novel.
