Violence: There are many instances, where Oliver is beaten by many characters he encounters.

Comment
Add a CommentI have read most of Dickens work and continue to reread many. I have been touched by the skill, power and superb craft infused into the stories. Art reflecting life as a painting in words so rich in color and vibrancy is cherished each time I start again. I wish I could thank Mr Dickens personally.
A true classic.
I personally really like Oliver Twist. It was a different book from what I am used to reading (in terms of plot, and writing style), but thought it was very interesting to read. Since the book was written around the 1830s I did find some chapters or scenes that were a bit difficult for me to read, or that I had to read again since I was not used to or familiar with certain words or phrases the author would use. Even though I did like the book, I found that the beginning was a little slow for me, and so were certain chapters (some of the times this was due to long descriptions that I felt weren’t always necessary). Overall, I liked Oliver Twist, and would recommend that people give it a try. 4/5.

Charles Dickens was one of the finest writers in the history of English literature. Very few authors have reached his level of writing. One of his best known novels, Oliver Twist, continues to be an inspiration for authors and readers alike. Oliver’s mother died just after he was born. He was brought in the workhouse where he was given “three meals of thin gruel a day, with an onion twice a week and half a roll on Sundays”. He escapes and travels to London by foot. A kindly man named Mr. Brownlow helps Oliver to uncover his past and find out the truth about his mother and father. He also helps Oliver find a loving home. This book is a classic. Whether you read a more simplified, modern version or the original, this is probably Dickens’ best tale.

A classic. Very good book.
Oliver Twist is such a great story. If you've seen the movie and want to read the book as well, be warned that the book is much darker than the children's movies. However, I just finished it and I was very satisfied with it! Charles Dickins is hilarious in a very dry and ironic way, and I adore it! I would recommend this to anybody, even a person who "doesn't like to read the classics." It's great for everyone!
This is my 3rd Charles dickens novel...
Despite the many coincidences in the plot and the sometimes moralistic tone of the story, I enjoyed this novel. Dickens strikes the perfect balance between pathos and humor in “Oliver Twist”. I found England’s 19th century poor laws fascinating.
I love the illustrations by cruikshank. They just add to the comical irony!
I read 'Tale of Two cities' and HATED IT!!! But Oliver Twist is fantastic!!! Read it! It's better than some of the rubbish being written right now.
P.S. I got the book that looks like the one shown in the description.
This is the BEST book I've ever read. Definately deserves a second time read. Or even a third (in my case), if you love the book.
