As a stand-alone scifi movie, it's pretty good. As a prequel to Alien, it's mostly good. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the movie ends as it does, and why a certain thing is not a little more clear. It is as if the special effects designer decided at the last minute that he didn't want to do a prequel after all.

Good prequel to the Aliens franchise.

I recently watched this for the third time, and appreciate more every time. An interesting story, giving the answer to where Earthlings came from, and leaving the proposed Alien prequels, the possible answers to why?
Nice film on it's own, but nothing up to the scale of "surprises," as was the 1979 Alien film, made by the same director. Still a good watch and worth repeated views.

Beautiful production design but an overall weak story hurts this entry into the franchise. Not the worst. Somewhere in the middle, quality-wise.

Visually stunning and thematically ambitious but otherwise weak and disappointing. An overly complicated plot seems intended to distract the audience from the forgettable characters and the filmmakers' unwillingness - or inability - to answer any of the questions they pose. To add to the frustration, the movie attempts to have it both ways, both playing up its relationship to Alien and denying it.

Loved rewatching this after seeing Alien: Covenant. Fassbender is brilliant in depicting such a twisted, yet pitiable robot.

Bunk. Hi tech 'Alien' franchise wannabe. Do crew members ever read a science fiction novel? You don't put your hand out to a slimy tentacle emerging from gooey black liquid mysteriously filling the chamber you just entered. And what's with the alien technology travel mug canisters? The spaceship they flew away on had a resemblance to the one found on the planet where the best of the Alien film series began. A redeeming factor: Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth.

Prometheus is a awesome movie and a misunderstood one. Every franchise has a origin, the "Alien" franchise starts here. I think the backlash was that people were expecting a horror, not a world building, philosophical science fiction. The first 2/3's of the movie was awesome, solid 9/10. The acting was great, cinematography gorgeous and it raised some really interesting questions. However, the last 35 minutes felt rushed and the logic kind of collapsed and got lost in itself repeating the same loop over and over but this doesn't make it boring! The last half hour was intense and had (SPOILER) the infamous C-Section scene, perhaps one of the best scenes in the franchise. I can see why many of the fanboys were pissed when this originally came out, but 5 years later I think it's a wonderful sci-fi film with great concepts, stunning visuals and a hit return for Ridley Scott. Alien Covenant (May 21 2017) has become my most anticipated movie this year and I have !HIGH! expectations. Im hoping for a movie on par with the original Aliens and I think Mr. Scott will deliver.

A film that needs to be seen on a large screen to appreciate scale of aliens, alien ship and planet. A little hokey, violent, intense, and great sound make it a good movie to see.

Final report of the vessel Prometheus. The ship and her entire crew are gone. If you're receiving this transmission, make no attempt to come to its point of origin. There is only death here now, and I'm leaving it behind. It is New Year's Day, the year of our Lord, 2094. My name is Elisabeth Shaw, last survivor of the Prometheus. And I am still searching.
