An adventurous debut novel that cross cuts between a competitive college swimmer's harrowing days in the Rocky Mountains after a major airline disaster and her recovery supported by the two men who love her - only one of whom knows what really happened in the wilderness. When nineteen-year-old Avery Delacorte's red-eye home for Thanksgiving makes a ditch landing in a mountain lake in the Colorado Rockies, she is one of the only five survivors. Now, faced with sub-zero temperatures, minimal supplies, and the dangers of a forbidding nowhere, Avery and Colin must rely on each other in ways they never could have imagined. In the wilderness, the concept of survival is clear-cut. Simple. In the real world, it's anything but.

This incredible debut novel struck a chord with its' distinctive tone, thrilling plot, and character-driven style. Avery is a 19 year old swimmer. Although she has plenty of other characteristics, being a swimmer is what she *is*: it defines her. Her life takes a dramatic turn when her plane crashes in the depths of the January-chilled Rocky Mountains. With only a few other survivors, Avery must try to find a way to survive the harrowing ordeal – while managing to keep her heart safe from the charismatic and kind Colin Shea, her teammate and the man she has avoided since freshman year of college. Survival isn't about being rescued, though... it's about accepting who you are and who you are meant to be. By turns philosophical, pulse-pounding, humorous, heart-breaking, and heart-warming, this novel will capture your heart and mind. A fantastic debut for Kells, a medical professional whose experience and knowledge serves to entrance the reader even more.

I love survivor stories. Was drawn to the premise of this one. Really liked the character of Colin. Wanting to find out if Avery could overcome the after effects of their harrowing experience and whether she and Colin would end up together kept me reading. Had a YA feel to it but still very good.

YA crossover for sure- romance and survival of characters that can do anything.

Good book about a young woman who survived a plane crash that killed 204 people. Avery survived along with fellow swim team member Colin and three small boys. What exactly happened in the Colorado Rockies comes out slowly in flashbacks. After the crash, when Avery goes home, due to some family history, she's in denial about her PTSD. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to ask for, and accept help.

Well written, but extremely unlikely story, capped by a grizzly bear attack on plane crash survivors in the Colorado mountains. There haven't been grizzly bears in Colorado in generations. That the suffering crash victims survived the bear as well? Please. Lots of drama, lots of soap opera romance, almost nothing in the way of substance.

I assume this is for young adult readers who might like the romance of the characters. The author uses flashbacks to try to explain the pasts of the two main characters, which feels forced, a way to keep the reader reading. The characters are Dickensian in that they are all 100% good people except for two villains who are 100% bad. Even when one of the good ones does something slightly wrong, it's for an almost saintly reason. The ending is a foregone conclusion from very early on. So, two-dimensional characters and a predictable plot. Two stars at most.
