A New York Times BestsellerAt a literary festival, Linda Fallon meets Thomas Janes for the first time in years. A fellow poet, his fame has grown during a decade of seclusion. But this is no chance meeting. Thomas chose this moment to reestablish contact with the woman he had passionately pursued years earlier. That affair was disastrous for both of them -- a turning point in their lives -- and the damage still haunts them. In this unforgettable story, Anita Shreve takes us back in time to explore these lovers' lives and examine the extaordinary resonance that a single choice can have over the course of a lifetime.

I have enjoyed reading many of Anita Shreve's books, and I am sorry to say that this book could not hold my interest. I started skimming pages, and then flipping through pages. Finally I did read the last, Part Seventeen, in it's entirety. It did not do enough for me to understand the total book. I do think that giving the gist of their earlier experiences at the beginning, then all in between, and then finish the book with the last of the beginning would have been a better way to go. Just saying ....

A difficult beginning to this book, and a surprising ending. Looks at a relationship at ages 52, 26 and 17.

Very sensitively written and so soppy I could not resist.

Wonderfully creative story-telling. This is one surprise ending you just don't see coming.
