"To Catch a Thief", 1955, Hitchcocks pairs Cary Grant with Grace Kelly. (Grant did 4 films for the ovate Hitchcock and Kelly did 3.) Retired jewel thief John Robie seeks to salvage his reputation as a gone-straight former thief by finding out the identity of a copy-cat thief who seems to duplicate all of Robie's style. Grace Kelly is the beautiful daughter of a very wealthy woman who owns the kinds of jewels to attract the jewel thief. There is more romance than intrigue or suspense in this picture. Hitchcock obsessed with blond leading ladies. Veteran English actor John Williams adds good support. One interesting fact is that in this film Grace Kelly's mother is played by Jessie Royce Landis who plays Cary Grant's mother in 'North by Northwest'. Landis was only 8 years older than Grant. The French setting in 1955 is very appealing. No over-done violence and no lurid sex scenes makes this movie a relief from today's classless movie making. The coloring of this film is marvelous.
