I enjoyed the different characters' points of view throughout the novel, because it created a level of realism that couldn't be achieved otherwise. Just hearing about a person's life is much less interesting than "seeing" the life through the character's own experiences. The author clearly understood her subject matter, as she presented most of it in a believable way (with the exception of the trip to the Hopi reservation).
