Star By Star reminds me of The Swarm War. The way they were written seems similar to me. Something important happens in the beginning, middle, and end, and in between, are a whole bunch of space battles. In this particular book, there were also Senate meetings, and parts where the Yuuzahn Vong make evil plans. That's not really a bad thing, because like I said in my Swarm War comment, Denning makes his space battles fun to read. I also think he made his Senate meetings parts entertaining as well. Something else that seems common among Troy Denning's wrtings are a lot of innuendos (hints of things I don't think really belong in a Star Wars book). I find it annoying to see that most of his books have these 'hints.' Star By Star felt too long; it should have been shorter. The last 100 pages definitely had the best parts of the book. Something else that I liked were some of the funny things the characters said to each other. In a book that's serious, it was nice to run across some comic relief. As sort of a side note, I thought that Leia's cool ending speech was similar to Winston Churchill's "We shall fight on the beaches" speech. Lastly, it's always nice when a book doesn't have any swear words and it was great that Star By Star had none.
